I's don't meet.







I wonder


if being lost in the Space Between The Lines describes a more accurate version of real encounters than the fiction of meeting in the same. That would mean to walk the same line. Without crossing it. But whose line do - I - walk on?


I wonder


if the Space Between The Lines expresses something intimate. Maybe the most intimate. That part, that the - I - wishes would fade unsaid - into fragile compositions of non-communicated urges.


I wonder


if the Space Between The Lines is rather read than created. Like an act of chasing meanings that confirm what the mind has decided on hearing.


I wonder


if the Space Between The Lines opens a secondary void of communication between the imaterial ands1 of the receiving and perceiving - I - in an intent to integrate the received and communicated into the canon of personal experience.









I wonder


if collectively acknowledged and legitimized undigested stories provide the scaffolding for the growth of Space Between The Lines.


I wonder

if the Space Between The Lines has been written by neglected NO´s that now claim their contribution to reality - by weaving their in-spoken messages into the immaterial tissue of our social patterns. Collectively and individually.


I wonder

if it is therefore, that its existence tends to fade invisible -


I wonder

if the transparent fabric of the Space Between The Lines can be measured by the amount of suppressed information

that wants or does not want to be shared,
that wants or does not want to be heard.


Information held back yet claiming a continuously growing space of importance -

if recognized.


Or even -
if unrecognized.


Or even -
if only projected.


Or even -
if only showing as a reflection.



I wonder

if the Space Between The Lines is a space of protection for any of the - I -'s engaged in the verbal nonverbal composition of a shared NOW.



If the Space Between The Lines is protective,
I wonder
whose protection it has been constructed for.



If the NOW was a shared Moment - an instant of collective intimate presence -


I wonder

why any - I - would need protection from another - I - sharing the NOW - only to realize that a truly shared Moment is impossible due to the parallelity of two NOW´s that in their essence might overlap, yet can´t be shared.


I wonder

if the Space Between The Lines protects itself, by forcing distance between the potential encounter of the two - I -´s lines.


I wonder
if it is to avoid unwanted gordian confusion.


I wonder

if the Space Between The Lines appears through the encounter of two NOW’s engaged in the intent of deciphering incorporated meaning in a vicious hope for an instant of synchronized reality and fusion.

The NOW of an - I - in the process of overlapping with another NOW of an - I -, is limited to the partial presence of the - I -. In the process of overlapping, meaning and exchange are negotiated in accordance with investigated social codes and scouted personal narratives. Following the negotiations, the - I - chooses a selection of bits and pieces that constitute M - I -’s presence in the overlapping NOW. These bits and pieces are divided from those other bits and pieces that are actually not present and rather in an immaterial different space - hidden in the back corners of the mind itself.


and I think of peanuts.



I wonder
if in the NOW the - I - is present, while - I - M’ partially present - that would be rude.

I wonder
if in the NOW the - I - is only partially present while other parts of the - I - are not present either.

I wonder
which parts of the - I - are not present in the NOW and if those are similar to M’ - I - n.

I wonder

if then, the Space Between The Lines forms itself as the result of a collaborative curatorial practice playing with the tensions and presentation of consciously and unconsciously archived parts of both M’ - I - self and the - I -?












I wonder
if the Space Between The Lines emerges through the words said



Or even-
the words unsaid


Or even-
the reciprocal deviation between message, meaning and intention.



Space Between can be filled with words - just not quite the right words. Or - exactly the right words to create the space - but words that hold on to a level of dysfunction between meaning and expression.
Words that deny the logic of the receiving - I - a sense of coherence.

They are words that substitute an almost claimed silence.
The silence of the ALMOST.






I wonder
about the constitution of truth.

I wonder

if the Space Between The Lines is a lie´s microscopic companion -
Lying is done with words, and also with silence - says Adrienne Rich2
Microlies claim immaterial spaces, denying meaning its relation to cause and effect - to cause and affection.

Danja Burchard (them/they) worked for interdisciplinary cultural and artistic projects in Berlin, Barcelona and Bergen.

As creative producer and dramaturge Burchard currently works with 'JUDGE ME' by Jingyi Wang; and the discursive program of Meteor Festival 2021 by Teatergarasjen. Since 2020 they collaborated as dramaturge with the performance production 'In First Person' by Daniel Mariblanca and the company 71Bodies and the discursive Program 'FUTUREBODIES' of Octoberdans 2020. In 2015 - 2016 they worked as executive assistant of Tomás Saraceno and the project 'Aerocene' and were studio manager for the artist Nahum. Since 2019, Burchard has worked as an independent producer for The Silver Moon Theater Company, the 'Heal Her' project by Lena Chen and curated the exhibition 'Going Viral' by photographer Philipp Spiegel. Collaboratively, they co-curated the 'COSMIC CULTURE SESSIONS', a talk series based on intersection of science, art and speculative philosophy, at ART25 in Berlin and co-curated festivals and organized workshops for the KOSMICA Institute. Since 2019, Burchard initiated, produced and performed as part of the artistic research collective Pornotopía and initiated and curated the 'NOTATIONS 43.8' project in collaboration with Elfie Carlie.
